Runic fragment of Norse love poetry.

Below is the translation of a Norwegian rune-stick with signum N B496 from the Bryggen cache. This find is discussed at length in my Substack article Runic fragments of medieval Norse love poetry.

So I love another’s wife
that mountains wide do start to weep;
I focus so my thoughts upon
the Eir of Rings, that Earth doth leap.

Ere I forsake the girl, the raven must turn
as white as the snow that lies on the peaks.
